The Mad Hatter is heading off on tour!
The Mad Hatter (Owen) has been on and on at us for ages: “when can we do a concert that’s all about percussion?!”. And guess what? We’re making his dreams come true! Yes, we’re giving him the chance to shine the spotlight on his favourite family of instruments! He’s taking off with his equally percussion-crazed friends Tweedledee, Tweedledum and Alice for a mini tour of Scotland. They’ll be in the Eastgate Theatre, Peebles on Saturday 5th March, in Inverness’s Eden Court on the 6th and then they’re going across the sea to Stornoway for performances at An Lanntair on the 8th (via some lucky schools in Ullapool who’ll be getting a visit!). We’re also doing a workshop in Peebles before the main performance and we’ll be treating the pre-schoolers of Stornoway to a Mini Mad Hatter’s Tea Party.
You’ll be given the chance to discover lots of wonderful and exciting instruments which sometimes get hidden behind the other instruments in the orchestra (yes, that’s you violins!). There will be drums, marimbas, xylophones and lots more. Here’s a glimpse at what you can expect (see the pic!) to see and hear. And as always with CCC there will be lots of audience participation – it’s guaranteed you’ll be up dancing (maybe in a Mexican hat…there’s a clue to some of the programme!).
You may even be inspired to create your own instruments? In case you missed our fantastic resource have a look at Junk Trunk. Never again will you look at an empty bottle as junk…it can be turned into funk! Also, to get you in the mood for the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party why not check out Owen’s Percussion Store?
It’s going to fun and a little mad…we’ll keep you posted on how the quartet get on (all those costumes…and all those instruments!). There’s still time to join the Mad Hatter at his musical Tea Party: childrensclassicconcerts.co.uk/events/.
