Junk Trunk
Calling all families and teachers alike – if you love a bit of crafting and the chance to make a noise, then this is the project for you.
Owen and a team of CCC musicians will help get you in the groove and offer some top tips (they’re not a load of rubbish!) for making a variety of percussion, string and wind instruments.
Check out their advice in the Junk Trunk activity pack and accompanying film series.
Don’t worry if you need to work offline, there’s a printable version with step-by-step instructions that are easy to follow, covering everything you need to know.
Before you get started:
- Collect a few tin cans, plastic tubs, cardboard tubes and glass bottles, or raid the bin to see what you can find, as these materials will come in handy for making music.
- The project is suitable for all ages, but please be careful – grown-up supervision is important when using craft tools!
Once you’ve got your instruments, it’s time to get playing:
- Learn some rhythms on percussion with Owen in Film 2, grab your string or wind instruments following guidance from Una (Film 3) and Emma (Film 4), then join in! Film 5 is a great opportunity to jam along with the team and have fun!
- Feel free to share photos of anything you come up with, we’d love to see them.
